One activity that I have learned to enjoy is running. I don't feel right for the day until I have completed my run. I usually do 8 miles a day for either 4 or 5 days a week. One definite perk to running so much is that I do not have to be too strict with my eating. So if I want to cheat I will. I feel that if you want to eat bad its not that big of a deal if you work hard to burn it off. But I do believe that eating junk food all the time is definitely not good for the body. It definitely tastes good, but me personally I feel so much worse in my insides eat a lot of junk food. Plus when I eat a balanced diet and am hydrated I don't have a lot of difficulty making my run. I dread going on my run if I've had too much too drink or eating poorly the day before. Besides eating healthy another important part of running is too run with the right shoes. You can't go to Dick's Sporting Goods and expect them to put you in a good shoe for you. Everyone's feet are different and everyone has a different running style. I get my shoes from a specialty running store. The store I use for my running needs is Total Running. I use to go to the mall or Dick's and I bought shoes cause I liked the way the looked. Now that I am into running I have shoes that I only wear to run. I currently run in Newton Gravity. These shoes help me to perfect my stride. It encourages running on the front of your foot, similar to bare foot running. A lot of people tend to do heel strikes when the run. This can lead to injury and it slows your speed down. I also like them because they are not heavy. Asics tend to be heavier because they have a lot of gel in the sole. My preference is for a light shoe. Some people want the gel but if you run on the front of your foot then you don't need the gel. The other important part of running is breathing. Before I knew what I was doing I only breathed out of my mouth. This is acceptable for short sprints but on long runs this will only make your breathing harder, saliva thicker, and more tired. I breathe in my nose and out of my mouth. It took a lot of thinking about my breathing at first but now its just comes naturally. If anyone is looking for a different and exciting way to exercise, I recommend running. It is not the same routine and you can change up the scenery everyday and the pace.
